Michaela Jean Estelle "Mica" Burton (born July 8, 1994 in Los Angeles, California) is a cosplayer, actress, YouTuber, streamer, and former staff member at Rooster Teeth Productions. She held a position as an editor, recurring secondary host and head of streaming at Achievement Hunter who would edit and run their live streams, before she eventually moved to become co-host and worked as an editor for The Know.

Mica is the daughter of LeVar Burton (host of PBS's Reading Rainbow) and Stephanie Cozart, who grew up in Los Angeles, California. Mica went on to graduate from the University of Michigan School of Theatre and Dance in Ann Arbor, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in Theatre in 2016.

She worked as an actress with the Avalon Artists Group during her time in Los Angeles.

On April 30, 2018, Mica announced via Twitter and an RT Journal[1] that she was moving back to Los Angeles to further pursue her acting, cosplaying, and modeling careers. She is no longer an employee of Rooster Teeth, and only appears in content on rare occasion.

Early Life[]

Mica was born to LeVar Burton and Stephanie Cozart on July 8, 1994. She attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, graduating in April 2016, as a theatre major. Mica's first introduction to Rooster Teeth was through Red vs. Blue during her childhood.

Career[]

Before her hiring, Mica appeared as a guest host in a number of Let's Plays.

Mica announced on May 16, 2016, in AHWU #317, that she had been hired to work in Achievement Hunter. In a post on the Rooster Teeth site, she mentioned that she had been keeping it a secret since Extra Life 2015. She worked as Head of Streaming, editor, and secondary host until her departure.

On Off Topic #27 (aired June 3, 2016), at the prompting of Burnie Burns, Mica discussed her lived experiences of racism. Some community members reacted viscerally to her bringing up the topic, characterizing it as a "rant" and dismissing her experiences and fears as unfounded because she came from a successful family. As a result, she received a barrage of harassment on social media and Achievement Hunter videos received a large number of dislikes whenever she featured in them. Some time after this, Mica quietly left Achievement Hunter to become an editor and host for The Know.

On April 30, 2018, Mica announced via Twitter[2] and an RT Journal that she was leaving Rooster Teeth and moving back to Los Angeles to further pursue her acting, cosplaying, and modeling careers.

On June 3, 2020, in a Twitter exchange with several Rooster Teeth employees on the Black Lives Matter movement, Mica revealed that her departure from Rooster Teeth was a direct response to the company's lack of support for her during the period of online harassment. She noted that at the time her coworkers seemed more concerned about her father disliking the company than about her well-being. Her claims were backed up by Barbara Dunkelman, Geoff Ramsey, Jeremy Dooley, and others.[3]

Appearances[]

Mica has appeared in several Let's Play episodes as both a previous member of Achievement Hunter and various guest appearances.

She has had multiple appearances on Rooster Teeth's livestreams, particularly their 24-hour livestreams.

Mica has also competed on Rooster Teeth's game show, On The Spot.

She has hosted panels at RTX and has appeared on the Always Open podcast.
